Primghar Utilities

Primghar is well served by good utilities - some community owned, some commercial.

GARBAGE In Primghar the Town & Country Disposal company picks up residential garbage every Friday. Contents too heavy for one container or bag (more than 75 pounds) must be divided into additional containers. Anything over two 32-gallon containers must have a tag purchased from City Hall for $1 before the garbage will be taken. *The yellow Recycling containers are for recyclables ONLY. Commercial garbage is picked up ?? and Friday.

RECYCLING Yellow recycling containers sit in front of almost every house - helping you and the City overall. State law limits the amount of garbage we can send to the landfill--there is a real cost for excess. Recycle trucks (from T&C Disposal) are here 1st and 3rd Wednesdays (early-please have containers out by 7 AM). Commercial recycling follows the same schedule. MORE

ELECTRICITY The City provides electrical service. Rates are set by the City Council and adjusted to follow its cost. The City's backup generator is used in case the supply is interrupted. Recent system wide improvements have assured us that we can deliver. MORE

WATER City water comes from the Dakota Aquifer. Two wells help assure us continued delivery. Along with the rest of the world, we urge you to conserve water. A leak on your side of the meter costs you--another reason to conserve. And sewer rates are based on water usage. MORE

SEWERS Runoff and sanitary sewers are two separate systems. Septic tanks are not allowed in the city limits. Again, conservation - through low flow shower heads and stools plus general good stewardship helps keep the price down. MORE
