May 15th It's time to get into the Spring Cleaning mood with the

City of Primghar's Spring Cleanup

This is the 2nd year the City has joined forces with Town & Country Disposal to pick up items placed along the curbside. You are asked to have the items you wish to discard placed at your usual garbage pickup area by 6 a.m. on Friday May 15th.

During Spring Cleanup the following items WILL be collected (cost):

Items include:
furniture, electronics, mattresses and box springs ($5.00)
appliances ($15.00),
household items, small amounts of wood cut into 6 foot or shorter lengths and bundled in 40 lb or lighter bundles, light metal objects such as grills, and other miscellaneous items. Paint cans containing dry paint with the lid removed will also be picked up.

You must contact City Hall by May 13th and get a tag for all the following:

  • Washing machines
  • Refrigerators
  • Freezers
  • Televisions
  • Clothes dryers
  • Trash compactors
  • Humidifiers
  • Computer monitors
  • Water heaters
  • Stoves
  • Air conditioners
  • Computers/parts
  • Furnaces
  • Microwave ovens
  • Dehumidifiers
  • Furniture
  • Mattresses
  • Box Springs
  • Electronics

During Spring Cleanup the following items WILL NOT be collected:

Items NOT allowed for clean-up days include all items banned from the Landfill. This includes all
tires,
chemicals (*see below for removal),
yard waste,
car parts,
concrete,
scrap metal, etc…
Demolition and remodeling debris is also not considered clean up and should have special arrangements made for by calling Town & Country at 712‑472‑2493

Environmental Services of Iowa will provide pickup and disposal of appliances for a $15.00 fee.

*Northwest IA Area Household Hazardous Material (HHM) Facility

Paint cans containing wet paint in them or you have any other hazardous materials such as Degreasers, Waxes & Polishes, Solvents, Lacquers & Thinners, Caustic Household Cleaners, Spot & Stain Removers, Pesticides & Herbicides or Oil Based Paint can be brought to a traveling trailer at the City Shop behind the Savings Bank on Thursday May 14th from 1-4pm or if you want to get rid of your hazardous materials sooner you may call the HHM Facility for an appointment/information at 1-712-324-4026. Also the Traveling trailer is looking for two volunteers to help with them this day. If interested call Primghar City Hall at 957-2435.

The City of Primghar and Town & Country Disposal have the right to reject any items placed out for collection.

If items are not picked up you will be notified of the reason they cannot be taken and you will be responsible for removing them from the curb and properly disposing of them within three (3) days. Should an item be picked up and you failed to have the proper tag you will be billed for all fees incurred.

Rummaging through or removing items placed out for pickup by any person should be done so in a neat manner.

To make "SPRING CLEANUP 2009" a successful community-wide program, everyone must cooperate and follow the simple guidelines listed above.
